Frequently Asked Questions
Do you encourage viewing before booking? Yes, feel free to visit us for a look round and a chat any day between 2pm and 3pm, no appointment necessary.
What time can we drop off and collect our dog(s)/cat(s)? You can collect and drop off any time between 10am and 4pm. Please allow enough time just in case we are busy dealing with other collections/drop offs when you arrive.
Are my dog(s)/cat(s) insured while staying at Burnside Pet Retreat? Yes, your dog(s)/cats(s) are insured for vets fees of up to £1,500 for kennel related illnesses while staying with us. They are not covered for any pre-existing conditions though and unfortunately XL Bullies are not insured for vets fees while with us. We must be notified of any illness or injury within 72 hours of them leaving us if you wish to claim on our policy.
What vaccinations does/do my dog(s)/cat(s) need to stay at Burnside Pet Retreat? Your dog will need to be fully up to date with their vaccinations for Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis and Kennel Cough. You cat will need to be fully up to date with their vaccinations for flu, enteritis and FeLV. You will need to have proof of that in the form of a vaccination card or record from your vet. If you are in any doubt then please contact us and we can check your certificate(s) in advance of your stay or check with your vet for you.
My dog/cat is on medication - can you adminster that? Yes, Ruth and Wayne are both qualified veterinary surgeons and Kerry also has lots of experience with giving prescribed medication.
What do we need to bring with us when we drop off our dog(s)/cats(s)? You must bring your dog's/cat's vaccination card as proof that they are fully up to date. We encourage you to bring enough of your dog's/cat's normal food, with a note of how much you feed and how often. It is always best to bring some spare just in case. We are happy if you want to bring your dog's/cat's own bed/bedding, but can't take any responsibility for it in case of damage. Feel free to bring toys also but again we can't be responsible for any loss or damage while in our possession.
How many walks a day will my dog get? Your dog will be taken out for a walk in the morning (the walk will be as is appropriate for their age, size and level of fitness) and they will then be given their breakfast. They will be given another similarly appropriate walk in the middle of the day, and then again in the afternoon, before being given their dinner. They will have another opportunity to go to the toilet before bedtime, and be given a biscuit or treat if appropriate.
Will my dog(s) be exercised with other dogs? We only exercise the dogs in their family groups. This reduces the chance of stress, illness and other incidents.
